In this short clip Fareed Zakaria explains that just 1% of US counties produce nearly one third of US output.  These numbers were generated by Bloomberg from new statistics from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis report.

“…Just 31 counties, or the top 1% by share, made up 32.3% of U.S. gross domestic product in 2018… That’s despite these counties only having 26.1% of employed Americans and 21.9% of the population last year. SOURCE

Put another way, 22% of American’s (71 million) produced 32% of all American output and those 22% are highly concentrated in major cities.

This explains some of the have vs have-nots feelings (they are not feeling, they are facts!) and that will affect the future elections including the 2020 US Presidential race.

Of course, even 1% can effect elections. This is the butterfly effect
